"Golden Ticket" Awards - 2001
Each year Amusement Today magazine publishes "The List" as part of the Golden Ticket Award. "The List"/Golden Ticket Award is the results of their yearly poll. Categories include best wooden and steel roller coaster, best amusement parks and much more. The top five wooden and steel coaster from the 2000 poll were used for the Discovery Channel Top Ten Coasters special. Every year Cedar Point scores high in the poll, and 2001 is no exception.

In the steel coaster category Cedar Point didn't do to bad. Millennium Force scored the number one position (plus it was ranked higher than the number one wooden roller coaster). Magnum scored the number three position. This is a total surprise. Since Magnum's opening in 1989 it has been voted number one. In the year of the millennium a giant was built on the other side of the park and  just like Magnum was rated high up (rated number two steel coaster, Magnum was number one) on the chart in its first year of operation. So I could have  foreseen that Millennium Force might become number one. Raptor moved down from the number five spot to number eight, I suspect this is due to some of the new coasters on the list.

Wooden Roller Coaster Category

Cedar Point didn't do so good in the wooden coaster category this year. Mean Streak scored in the 20's last year and this year it didn't even make the top 25. Since Mean Streak was built the world's wooden roller coaster population doubled, most of the newer coaster are smoother and better than ever. 2000 and 2001 brought several new world class wooden coaster and they pushed Mean Streak down the list.

Best Amusement Park Category

Cedar Point                   21%
Islands of Adventure      12%
Knoebel's Grove           11%
Kennywood                  10%

Its not a big surprise that Cedar Point grabbed the number one spot again. I really don't know where to start on describing why Cedar Point is a number one park.

Best Capacity (Fastest moving lines) Category

Cedar Point                  51%
Walt Disney World       12%
Disneyland                   7%

Once again Cedar Point picked up the best capacity award. That award is given to the park that is best at getting as many people as possible on a certain ride (fastest moving lines). I suspect the main reason the award was given to Cedar Point is due to the fact - no matter how crowed the park is the rides run as many trains/car/vehicles as possible.
